Better Learn Together
Peer4Good is a non-profit platform organization founded by four students from Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
It starts small, but expands rapidly.
Initially, Roxanne and Hannah, two students transitioning from Chinese public school to English-based international school, faced a whirlwind of challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The abrupt shift to online learning and a new language environment highlighted disparities in resources and approaches.
Amidst the chaos, they discovered peer-tutoring as a source of support. They realized the need went beyond specific homework questions, encompassing broader learning strategies, STEM integration, and leveraging the strengths of both languages learning approaches.
Inspired by this shared understanding, Roxanne and Hannah, along with like-minded Nicholas and Daniel from international schools in Hong Kong and Shanghai, founded Peer4Good. Recognizing the pandemic’s impact on many students, particularly those navigating the English- medium environment for the first time, they aimed to create a supportive network of guidance, encouragement, and community.
Based on the concepts of for students and by students, their peer-tutoring program provided a safe space for students to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other. This initiative fostered empowerment and resilience, demonstrating that collaboration and empathy could overcome obstacles and create a more equitable educational experience.
Peer4Good serves as a testament to the power of peer-to-peer learning and the transformative impact of individuals who dare to make a difference.
